About the Event
The Little Monsters Fun Run is about one mile and starts at 8:30am; immediately following, the BOO-yah! 5K kicks off at 9am. But that's just the beginning, because after the races, we have the awards ceremonies, the costume contest for you and Fido, too, enticing crafts, raffle prizes, music and of course our Stuff the Truck event for the Foodbank! We will be partying in the park until noon so plan on sticking around!
Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia
The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia (FSEVA) was founded in 1981 as a clearinghouse for food for the poor. Since its inception, the Foodbank has distributed over 221 million pounds of food directly and through partner agencies within the community. The location of the Foodbank has changed over the years but the mission has not, which is to educate the public on hunger issues and to end hunger within the community.
Port Norfolk Civic League (Parks Fund)
The Port Norfolk Civic League was established in 1976 to foster a sense of community and well being for all residents and businesses. The League provides a united front on local issues that impact the community, maintains several neighborhood parks and supports local businesses, houses of worship and area charities. The Parks Fund was established to support the preservation of two historic parks within the neighborhood: Fountain Park and Reflection Walk, a cancer surviors memorial park.
The Tidewater Striders Track Club, more commonly known as the Tidewater Striders Running Club, was formed in September, 1972. The club has become the largest running club in the State of Virginia, and one of the ten largest in the United States as part of the Road Runners Club of America. Although the club was originally a haven for runners, it grew to incorporate the sports of race walking and multisport competition, such as the triathlon.
